7 delicious Dishes from Adam Road Food Centre

Adam Road Food Centre or Adam Food Centre, comprise of 32 stalls was opened in 1974. It was part of government’s wider effort to remove hawkers from the streets in the early days. Located at 2 Adam Road, S289876 with just 5 mins walk from Botanic Garden Mrt Station.

Although the food centre is small, it holds many multiracial cuisines as well as the most popular Muslim Stalls in Singapore. It is the best place to try all kind of popular Halal street food in Singapore and cheap food in Adam Road. Nearby Food and vicinity include Singapore Botanic Gardens, Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden, Serene Centre, Steven Mrt station, Corporation shopping Plaza, Crown centre, Empress Road food centre and more.

You must try these 7 Delicious Hawker Stalls at Adam Road Food Centre.

Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak

Adam Road Food Centre is most famous for its Nasi Lamek and you can easily find 4-5 stalls selling it, but the clear favourite has to be Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak. Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak started since 1998 is also one of the partners behind CRAVE Nasi Lemak & Teh Terik chain store with 45 outlets currently.

There is always a constant long queue as its fanbase includes Singapore’s PM Lee Hsien Loong and the Sultan of Brunei. PM Lee Hsien Loong even served Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak to the President of Indonesia Mr Joko Widodo during his short visit to Singapore in 2014. Definitely worth the queue!

Price of the set meal starts from $4.50. I would recommend at least a Full house set $5.50 to really enjoy your meal, which include fried chicken, egg, otah-otah, fried anchovies and lots of Sambal Chilli.

I have ordered the Royal Flush set at $6. The Basmati rice is so fragrant and aromatic, which soaked up all the rich flavour of coconut milk, pandan leaves and lemongrass. You must try their Fried Chicken Wing as it is was so tender and crispy. The sambal chilli was the prefect complement to this dish by adding sweet and spiciness to it.

No.1 Adam’s Nasi Lemak

The other popular Muslim Halal Nasi Lemak stall has to be No.1 Adam’s Nasi Lemak which is just right beside Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak. Although the queue might not be that long, you still have to wait around 15 – 20 mins. There are 4 options to choose – Fish or Chicken Set at $4, Sutra Special at $5 and Adam’s Special at $6.

The winning formula for No.1 Adam’s Nasi Lemak is their simple and traditional flavours of the Nasi Lemak taste without any speciality. The rice is soft, fluffy and holds a light coconut aroma. Love the right balance of the rice and ingredients with the sweet spicy sambal. It would be perfect if the chicken wing are much more crispy.

Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari (Michelin Bib Gourmand)

Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari is another popular muslim halal stall famous for its Mee Rebus and Mee Soto. Price starting from $3.80 onwards. You can also top up a Bergedil (Potato Cutlet) for $1.20.

The Mee Rebus was savoury and satisfying. The bowl is generously filled with springy yellow noodles, spreaded with thick aromatic gravy. The thick gravy was sweet and little spicy, mixed with lots of spices and ingredients. Garnished with a hard boiled egg, dried shrimps, tau pok, coriander and fried shallots. Its a pity the green chillies are not freshly cut as they are rather soft and wrinkles.

Stall has just been awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2023.

Adam Road Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle

You might find Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle familiar as they have another popular stall at Zion Road. Noo Cheng Prawn Noodles at Zion road was later renamed to Fresh Taste Big Prawn Noodle and was awarded the Michelin Bibs Gourmand in 2021.

Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle has been serving their signature Big Prawn Noodles ($8/$10/$12) for more than 30 years. They also served Sliced Pork Prawn Noodles for $5, Pork Belly Prawn Noodles or Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles for $6.

Although the price is rather pricy but the the portion of the ribs and prawns are pretty reasonable. Noodles were springy, pork ribs were soft and succulent, and prawns were fresh and juciy. The broth was surprisingly light, sweet but flavourful. How I wish it could be much thicker and robust! Nevertheless, you can still taste the savoury taste of pork and sweetness of the prawns as it has been boiled for hours.

Adam Chicken Rice

Adam Chicken Rice is another popular muslim halal stall which you might have to queue 20 – 30 mins during peak meal hours. They are specialize in three items – Chicken Rice or Roti John for $5 and Ayam Penyet for $6.

I was quite surprise initially at a pricy $5 chicken rice as compare to normal chicken rice at $3 or $4, but the long queue certainly tell me otherwise.

The first thing that caught my attention was the Yellow Rice, and it is definitely not the same normal chicken rice. The stall owner can’t share anything with us but mention that they have used special recipes and ingredients to prepare them.

The rice is just nice, soft and fluffy. The chicken is a bit dry and crisp roasted, and there are many bones even with Chicken Breast! The broth is robust and aromatic with chicken stocking. Perfect to complement with their Sambal lime chilli sauce which is rather spicy. I would recommend to go for their Ayam Penyet for extra $1.

Yu Kee House of Braised Duck (Adam Road Food Centre)

Found another Yu Kee House of Braised Duck stall here and decided to review it since it is really popular. Stall offer many variety of dishes like Chicken or Duck Rice, Char Siew Rice or Noodle, Duck Porridge, Kway Chap and more with prices starting from $3. I have also reviewed Yu Kee Duck Rice at Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre last month.

Decided to try their Kway Chap for $4.50 and find it pretty reasonable in view of the generous portion of ingredients. The light broth was savoury and aromatic with herbs. Kway was smooth and slurpy. Pork belly and fish cake were both savour and tender, but find the pig intestines rather hard with light pungent smell. Don’t miss out on their sambal anchovies chilli as they are super delicious.

Teck Kee Hot & Cold Dessert

How can you miss not having a nice bowl of dessert right after a meal or miss a bowl of cold dessert in a hot sunny afternoon? Teck Kee is the only stall at Adam Road Food Centre selling hot & cold desserts. The popular desserts are Ice Kachang $2.50, Ching Teng $2.20, Green Bean Sago $2 and Tao Suan $2.

Their Ching Teng was really light and refreshing. You can find lots of ingredients like small jelly, white pearls, dried longan and white fungus inside. The ice was soft and nicely shaved. Glad it wasn’t too sweet, just perfect & delicious!

I will definitely come back next time to try their Ice Kachang and Tao Suan.
