Although the food center is pretty small, you can still find a great variety of food available with popular dishes like Wanton Noodle, Fish Ball Noodle, Biryani, Chicken Rice & more. It is the best place to try all types of popular street food and the cheap food in Empress Road and Bukit Timah Road.
I have compiled these 10 Irresistible hawker food stalls at Empress Road Food Centre for you.
Ah Wing’s Wanton Noodle

Ah Wing’s Wanton Noodle is the most popular stall at Empress Road Food Centre. Most people come to this food center just to try this Hong Kong Style signature wanton noodle. You can definitely expect a long queue and might have to wait for 20 to 30 minutes. The Stall offers their signature Char Siew Wanton Noodle, Shredded Chicken and Prawns Noodle, Mushroom Chicken Feet Noodle and more at $3.50 or $4.50 per plate.
The stall owners were previously from Hong Kong and have moved over to stay in Singapore. That is why it is difficult to find a similar Hong Kong Style stall in Singapore.

Their char siew roasted with dark bittersweet sauce was nice and tender. The generous noodles were springy and soaked in medley of sauces. The highlight is their Wanton as they are plump and juicy. They are firmly wrapped with minced meat & other ingredients to give you a burst of flavours in every bite. Really Delicious!
Ah Wing's Wanton Noodle Address: 7 Empress Road Food Centre, #01-108 S260007 Operating Hours: 8am – 2pm (Closed on Mon, Thur & Fri)
Somerset Fishball Noodle

I walk past someone eating a bowl of fish ball noodle but can’t help staring at it as the fish balls were so big. Then I saw a long queue at Somerset Fishball Noodle during lunch and decided to try and review it.
The stall offers Fish ball noodle, Saito fish ball noodle, Gui Fei Abalone Noodle, Minced Meat Noodle Laksa and more for $3.50 or $4.50 per bowl. Their Signature Minced Meat Noodle is $5 with added abalone slices, shrimp and more ingredients. You can also add additional Wu Xiang for $1 or fishcake for $1.30.
Stall Auntie told me that they have been selling fishball noodles for more than 40 years, started their small humble stall in Somerset. They have taken a break due to sickness and back in action with their new stall at Empress Road Food Centre last year. Their fishballs were all handmade from suppliers.

There are 3 fishball stalls in this market and I like this stall best. The portion for my Saito fishball noodle ($3.50) was very generous with so many ingredients filling up my bowl. The handmade Saito fishballs were so huge that it covered my spoon! They were really bouncy and succulent. Fishcake was cut slightly thicker so that you can enjoyed the freshness and chewiness of it.
The savoury sauce, mixed with vinegar, fish sauce, lard oil, chilli, blended perfectly well with the springy noodles. What a treat!

I went back today to try their Bak Chor Mee and it was really good. You can see the generous amount of ingredients in the bowl filled with minced pork, pork slices, 2 meat balls, pig liver slice and braised mushroom slices, all for just $3.50. Noodle was al dente and well tossed with their signature and chili sauces. Dish was served with a bowl of tasty savory soup.

Happy World Roast 好世界

Happy World Roast stall started since 1961 at Six Avenue. They have moved here in the early 70s and stall is currently managed by Edward (3rd generation). The stall offers Char Siew Rice, Roasted Pork Belly Rice, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Char Siew Wanton Noodles and more, for $3 per plate.

I have ordered their signature Char Siew, added Roast Pork Belly with chicken fragrant rice (at $4) instead of white rice so I could review the rice. The rice was soft and fluffy, and you could clearly tasted the flavourful chicken broth which was soaked up by the rice. The Char Siew was tender as it was marinated nicely and beautifully charred. The pork belly was really fatty and crispy. A perfect complement with their dark sweet sauce to make a great meal.
Happy World Roast Address: 7 Empress Road Food Centre, #01-107 S260007 Operating Hours: 9am – 2pm (Closed on Friday)
Fu Gui Bak Chor Mee 富贵

Fu Gui Bak Chor Mee is another popular Noodle stall managed by just one man. Stall is popular as it sold out as early as 1pm sometimes. It offers Minced Meat Noodles, Fish Ball Noodles (for $3 or $4) and Laksa (for $3.50 or $4.50).

I ordered a dry fishball Mee Pok for $3 and was impressed with the generous ingredients. My bowl of noodle came with 4 fish balls, fish dumpling, sliced fishcakes, minced pork and garnished with fried anchovies. The fishballs are chewy and bouncy. The sauce was well balanced with vinegar, lard oil, light sauce, sesame oil and chili, goes really well with my springy Mee Pok.

Nur Aishah Muslim Food

I noticed and small crowd at this Nur Aishah Muslim Food Stall and decided to try and review it. Stall offers the usual Muslim dishes like Mee Soto, Mee Rebus, Mee Siam, Lontong, Tahu Goreng and more from $3 onwards. But I was told that they have all sold out by 1130am and left with just Mee Rebus at $3.50. I was impressed as the food must be really good and popular!

The serving was decent with lots of ingredients include yellow noodles, Sprouts, Tofu, Egg, Green chili and more. The gravy was thick, aromatic and you can taste the sweetness and spiciness after the first bite. Taste was pretty good but will be hard to beat SELAMAT DATANG WARONG PAK SAPARI at nearby Adam Road Food Centre.

Many different types of Prata and Murtabak for you to choose – Plain, Egg prata, Cheese prata, mushroom prata and more. Priced starting from $1. The most popular dishes have to be their signature Chicken or Mutton Biryani.

Their Chicken Biryani are tasty and blast with flavours. Basmati rice is nice, soft and fluffy. You can smell the herbs and spicies used in their rice and curry, which make the meal so satisfying and delightful. It would be wonderful if Biryani is served with poppadom.

The stall is managed by husband-and-wife team and has garnered great reviews and feedback from residents for their fresh and flavorful ingredients. Customers also appreciate the affordable prices and friendly services.

The roast chicken was well marinated, tender and juicy, drizzled with light savory sauce. Chicken rice was fluffy and fragrant with light aromatic smell of pandan leaves and gingers. Dish was served with bean sprouts, vegetables and a bowl of soup. Must complete the meal with their mild spicy garlicky chili sauce to elevate the taste to the next level.
It is no surprise that this stall continues to be one of the most popular stalls in this Empress Road Hawker Centre.
Farrer Road Chicken Rice Address: 7 Empress Road Food Centre, #01-98, S260007 Operating Hours: 830am – 2pm (Closed on Monday)
Hilltop Fried Hokkien Mee

Hilltop is a relatively new stall in this hawker center selling Fried Hokkien Mee. It gets really popular as it is the only stall selling Fried Hokkien mee. Stall is managed by 3 youngsters, and they are really fast. One taking order, one packing and serving, while the last one manages the wok. Price of the noodle is $4.50 and $6 for larger potion.

The plate and serving of the $4.50 prawn noodle were pretty small. Ingredients include yellow noodles with thick bee hoon, 2 large prawns, pork belly slices, a lime and garnished with crispy pork lards on top. I am surprised that I don’t see sotong which are so common in Hokkien mee. Dish was pretty decent and savory with nice crunchy bite of the crispy pork lard but lack Wok Hei. Nevertheless, stall is pretty new & their dishes will improve over time.
