The Hokkien mee in Lian Xiang Shu Shi is cooked a bit dry but packed with flavours using rich and thick prawn stocking. The sambal’s sweetness and the calamansi acidic juicy complements the noodles very well as they are cooked until the stock is fully absorbed into the dish. It is advisable to arrive earlier as the line can be super long during busy meal hours.

You should also try their signature Char Kway Teow. Although the dish is slightly on the sweet side but the smoky aromatic fragrant and wok hei is fantastic. Generous portion and freshness of the ingredients complement the dish really well.

Fu Qiang Pig’s Organ Soup, another hidden gem, has won praise for its expertly prepared Kway Chap and Pig’s Organ Soup. Pork intestines that have been meticulously cleaned are spotless and have a meltingly soft texture and shine. They also have an outstanding braised pork belly. The ridges of fat and meat combine to form what appears to be a single flavour pool that is buttery, subtly herbal, and savoury.

The Pig’s organ soup is not too spicy as it retains the aroma and sweetness from the pork bones. Filled with generous of ingredients with Pig’s intestines, liver, stomach, pork meat slices, meatball and tofu. Very comforting especially on a rainy day.

Before moving to its current location, this stall was formerly known as Hoe Heng BBQ Fish and have spent about 18 years at the old Woodlands Centre Food Centre. You can choose to order the smaller portions of the BBQ Stingray and Sambal Sotong, along with two plates of rice and they will be delivered to you sizzling hot within next 15 – 20 minutes.

The sambal sotong is stir-fried with shredded onion and nicely presented on a banana leaf. The flavour is well balanced by the sweetness of onion and spiciness of the sambal chilli. The flavors of the sambal stingray were exquisite and enchanting, as it clearly entices me to go back for more. The prawns were fresh, fat and juicy, and the lala was absolutely delightful.

The retired sister eventually decided to start up her business again, and found her stall here at the Marsiling Mall Food Centre. Although the recipes are very similar, the sisters make a few adjustments to create a unique variations for each stall, with the Marsiling version being a bit sweeter.
