It is situated in the heart of Tanjong Pagar area and this place is packed with huge office crowds during lunch hours. It is also the best place to try all kinds of delicious street food in Chinatown area and cheapest meal in town city.

Because the options at this heritage hawker centre might be overwhelming during lunchtime, we’ve compiled a list of stalls we think you shouldn’t miss when you’re there!

Here’s a list of the 12 best food stalls you’ll find at Maxwell Food Centre & market, featured in our Singapore food guide 2022.

Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice (Michelin Bib Gourmand)

Singapore Michelin Bib Gourmand Award winner, Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice is one of the most famous chicken rice stall in Singapore after getting its praise from Anthony Bourdain that “the chicken rice is so fragrant and delicious that it can be eaten on its own” and winning “Gordon Ramsay vs Tian Tian” Hawker Heroes Challenge. Locals and tourists have start swarming to this stall.

But do feel that the standard has drop tremendously as it became more commercialised. Steamed chicken breast meat is rather tough, the rice tastes a bit greasy and was not as fluffy as compare to the past.

I do prefer Ah Tai Hainanese Chicken Rice #01-07, which is just 2 stalls away as it reminds me of the old Tian Tian as Ah Tai used to be the Head Chef of Tian Tian. If you have the chance, do try both to compare it yourself.

One is made with red bean paste and powdered sugar, while the other is made with sesame seeds and five-spice powder. Both are crisp and light in texture.
