Poh Poh Roasted Chicken Rice

Poh Poh Roasted Chicken Rice is one of the most popular stall here. It’s popular as it got its fame from the main outlet, Poh Poh Roasted Chicken Rice and Duck Rice at Serangoon Garden. The Stall offers Chicken Rice at $4/$5/$6, Char Siew Rice at $3.50/$5, Pork belly Rice at $3.50/$5, Roasted Duck Rice at $4.50 and more.

Ordered their Roasted Chicken Rice and Roasted Pork Belly with chicken fragrant rice for $4. You can tasted the flavourful chicken broth in their rice as they were soft and fluffy. The Chicken breast was drizzled with medley of sweet, sour and tasty sauce to make it tender and juicy. Roasted Pork Belly was soft with juicy fat layers wrapped around the meat and skin was crispy. You can smell the light herbal taste in the soup and they complement well together.

Happiness Healthy Fish Meat Soup (Teban Gardens Food Centre Outlet)

Happiness Healthy Fish Meat Soup is also another popular stall with long queue during meal hours. This is one of their newer outlet at Teban Gardens Food Centre. Look at its impressive menu, which include slices Batang fish or Fried Fish with Bitter Gourd, Seafood soup, Fish Maw Soup, Red Grouper, and more. Price starting from $6 onwards.

I have ordered both slices batang and fried fish soup with Yi Mian (Braised Noodle) for $6. The fish soup was really fresh, sweet and tasty, with added milk for its creamy taste. The bowl was topped with tofu, tomatoes and lots of bitter gourd, but glad its not bitter. You can choose not to add bitter gourd if you are not a fan of it!
Garnished with crispy fried egg floss and fried shallots on top to serve. Batang fish slices were fresh and tasty, while the fried batter fish was thick with mild crisp. Served best with light soya sauce and chilli padi.

Quan Soon Wanton Noodle

Quan Soon Wanton Noodle is managed by Madam Wong who has been offering this affordable and delicious wanton noodle for 40 over years. The stall offers a great variety of noodle including Wanton Mee, Laksa, Prawn Noodle and dumpling soup for $3 or $4 per plate.

My wanton noodle serving was pretty decent for the price of $3 with springy noodles, slices of Char Siew, 3 wantons and vegetables. I enjoyed their wanton very much as it is stuffed with minced pork and water chestnut. You can taste the chewy crunch of the water chestnut upon every bite. Soup was pretty light but complement well with the noodle.

JH Fishball Noodle

JH Fishball Noodle stall has been selling fishball noodles for more than 40 over years. This is one of the cheapest stall in Singapore selling fishball noodle for just $2. Stall has been providing affordable food for the neighbourhood for years to help the poor. If you want a bigger serving, you can choose $2.50 or $3.

I ordered a bowl of fishball Mee Pok dry for $3. The springy Mee Pok noodle was very generous and garnished with minced meat on top. You can find 4 bouncy fishballs and slices of fishcake in the hot soup. Tossed the Mee Pok in medley of sauces with vinegar, light sauce, sesame oil, chilli sauce and more. Definitely not the best fishball noodle around but make a very simple and decent meal.

Tan Hock Seng Cooked Food

I found another stall selling Chicken or Duck porridge for just $2. Tan Hock Seng Cooked Food is famous for its braised duck dishes and Kway Chap. Its offers a great varieties of dishes including Roasted Chicken Rice / noodle ($3), Duck Rice / noodle ($3.50), Chicken Feet Noodle ($3.50), Kway Chap ($4.50) and more.

The serving for the kway Chap was very generous with so many ingredients including Braised Egg, Tau Pok, Pig Intestines, skins and Pork Belly. The Broth was aromatic with smell of herbal and garlic, and the kway is smooth and simply melt in mouth. Duck Noodle was nice and slurpy.
Duck Porridge was pretty plain and normal as I would prefer to taste the congee type that is soft and boiled for long hours, rather than teochew porridge with duck meats. Nevertheless, you should try their signature braised duck dishes and Kway Chap instead.

I ordered a bowl of Tau Suan for $1.80 and noticed a generous topping of You Tiao on it. It tasted well as it wasn’t too starchy or sweet. The beans are nicely steamed and texture was just right. Overall, a great dessert right after meal.
